«From the beginning of times, art and spirituality have been intimately related. Over the centuries, religion has had a huge influence on artists.
Both art and spirituality try to reach the divine. Both are servants of the sacred, and Mozart is not an exception to the rule.
In spite of his questionnings and his beliefs that have led him to join the Freemasonry, Mozart has always remained devoted to his Faith and the Requiem could be seen at the same time as an ending and as a new beginning.
It symbolize an ending for his work represents death - the imminent death of Mozart, some will say - and the ending of a life of creation for its author.
It represents a biginning as Mozart conceives death is as represented in the Scriptures. Death is only the beginning of a celestial life, however it is also the beginning of a new era for men (...)
I could not have dreamt of a better place than these gothic cathedrals to bring this masterpiece to life again...»

LA GRAN VIA - EL DUO DE LA AFRICANA French Premiere

Pasdeloup Orchestra - Divan Chorus
Concerts
For years, the composers Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde collaborated creating several zarzuelas and sainetes (short sketches) from the popular music style known as género chico.
This zarzuela in one act and five scenes, with original text by Felipe Pérez González, was premiered in the Felipe Theatre in Madrid on 2 July 1886.
It is a group of five short sainetes that revolve around a current affair: the demolition of old buildings to open up a new avenue, which would end up being the Gran Vía in Madrid.

In this sense, this zarzuela intends to be a contemporary and choral portrait of Madrid at the time.
The score of El dúo de La africana was only just finished in time for its premiere at Madrid's Teatro Apolo, on 18th May 1893. Perhaps this haste was a blessing in disguise, for El dúo de La africana ("The Duet from L'Africaine") has a spontaneity and uncomplicated lightness of tone which ensured an initial run of 211 performances and has kept it firmly in the repertoire ever since.
For the first time in France, Ricardo Araújo will conduct the Pasdeloup Orchestra and the Divan Chourus in a concert version of this 2 well-known masterpieces.
